How To Design Your Own Kitchen?

Updated: Jul 17, 2019

In the old days, Kitchens used to be hidden in one of the corners of the house. Therefore their functionality was given more importance as compared to their visual aesthetics. However, times have changed now. The previously hidden kitchen rooms have now mostly been brought out as an open-planned kitchen in your living space. Due to this, their visual appearance has also started to play a great role.

Is kitchen decoration something that you can do at your own without requiring professional help? It sure is! Here are some tips for you to follow if you want a beautiful outlook for your new kitchen.

1. Draw a detailed plan for your kitchen

Before you start designing your kitchen, it is important for you to fully understand the space you will be working with. This is necessary in order for you to completely utilize the kitchen space without making it seem way too airy or too congested. Use a graph paper to make a scaled floor plan of your kitchen. Make sure to mark the areas where there are doors and windows present.

Once you are done mapping your kitchen, you can start planning on exactly what kitchen furniture do you require and where will it be placed on your map. Keep an eye on your budget!

2. Design a few kitchen spaces and select the best layout

The best designs do not come just like that. They require a few attempts before the best possible layout is chosen. Brainstorm a few ideas and check which suits your lifestyle the best. Decide which type of kitchen do you require. There are various kitchen types that look visually pleasing, namely U-shaped kitchen, open-planned kitchens, breakfast bars, etc.

3. Decide on a kitchen style and design it according to your kitchen plan

Once you are done with the layout, it is time to give your kitchen a flattering, new look. Your choices should not only be visually appealing on their own but should also go with your living space perfectly. Your main choices will revolve mostly around cabinetry, contemporary look or a classic look.

The contemporary slab units give off a very modern appearance, with hand-less cabinets and other modern touches. These looks are further subdivided into designs, shapes, and colors of the slab units.

On the other hand, the classic kitchen looks will take you back to when you were a child, watching your grandmother bake you fresh cookies in her cozy kitchen. Such kitchen looks also tend to be visually pleasing, given you decorate your space well. Other vintage kitchen looks include Victorian styled kitchens and country kitchens.

4. Lastly, pick out nice kitchen appliances

Your kitchen appliances will either make your kitchen more beautiful or they will ruin its overall look. Moreover, the appliances should also be spaced out nicely. All the items congested at a single counter might not give your kitchen the look you were looking for.

In the end, decorate the space with flowers and enjoy your new kitchen!
