Eight Kitchen Design Ideas to Try in 2020

With a new year comes an opportunity for change. Out with the old and in with the new! What better place to start something new than in the hub of the home, the kitchen? A central piece in the home, kitchen design can set the tone for the entire home. In the world of kitchen design, there are a number of new and fresh ideas to test in 2020.

1. Double Islands

The kitchen is about family, and double islands encourage community-making. Often, having an island in a kitchen requires an open concept, which enhances the appearance of the size of the room and removes barriers to other adjacent and key living areas such as the dining room and the living room. Double islands also offer more counter space and opportunities for seating.

2. Gold Trimmings

You cannot go wrong with a touch of luxury in the kitchen. Gold trimmings are making their way to the forefront of trendy kitchen design. You can find gold trimmings on cabinet handles and statement-piece decorations like lighting.

3. All-white

White kitchens are classic kitchens. They are inviting and bright. Often, with white kitchens, there is an emphasis on less – less counter clutter and unnecessary appliances (that are often black in color). All-white kitchens allow for creativity and options when it comes to accessorizing with color if desired.

4. Dark Design

There has been a rise of darker hues appearing in kitchens. They give a vibe of elegance and class and go well with many appliances, which tend to be black or silver (stainless steel).

5. Repurposed Wood

With the emphasis on sustainability and recycling, it’s no surprise that repurposing material is a popular design technique. In the kitchen, repurposed wood can make tables and shelves. With the popularity of natural colors, repurposing wood is a beautiful and eco-friendly idea to try.

6. Metal and Stone

As with wood finishes, metal and stone in the kitchen fit the increasingly popular trend of earthy tones. Better yet, repurposing metal in the kitchen is not only chic but eco-friendly too. This design idea materializes in unique metal sinks and large marble back-splashes.

7. Hidden Storage

DE-clutter, minimize, reduce. These are today’s buzz words and can be applied well in the kitchen, a room often crowded with things from pots and pans to appliances galore. A great kitchen design to combat clutter is hiding storage. Popular ways of increasing storage while keeping it out of sight are in-wall cabinets and large pull-out drawers that house more than just the cutlery. Another idea that is gaining ground is hiding appliances with fridge doors that match the cabinet and large counter-level drawers that house coffee machines and toasters.

8. Appliances

An upgrade in appliances can save you not only money but time in the long run! Tech in the kitchen has come along way from the revolutionary microwave! The current trend in kitchen design is the inclusion of appliances that are increasingly user-friendly and functional. These appliances include touch controls and vacuum drawers as well as induction cooking tops and sous-vide cooking features.
